The Maryland Judiciary states that Case Search provides public access to case records from District Court and Circuit Courts. Case Search is not the same as a certified case file. It is a public summary and index. It may show a case number, parties, filing date, court, case type, event history, disposition, and hearing date when the information is public and electronically available. Older files, sealed files, shielded files, archived records, and full document copies still run through the Clerk of the Circuit Court or the District Court clerk, depending on where the case was filed.

Public Access Rules for Calvert Court Records

Maryland access rules use both public-records law and court-specific rules. Maryland General Provisions section 4-201 gives a basic inspection right for public records at reasonable times unless another law allows denial. Section 4-202 addresses written applications to inspect public records.

Judicial records also follow Maryland Rules Title 16, Chapter 900. Maryland Rule 16-901 applies the judicial-records access rules to records in paper or electronic form held by a judicial agency. The Clerk of the Circuit Court is the local records officer for many Circuit Court records in Calvert County.
