Calvert County Probate Offices
Probate in Calvert County is handled by the Register of Wills and Orphans' Court system. The Calvert Register of Wills is Hon. Margaret H. Phipps. The office is at the courthouse in Prince Frederick, and hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed weekends and state holidays. Filings cannot be accepted by email. Current Register guidance says a small estate applies when Maryland probate property is $50,000 or less, or $100,000 or less if the spouse is the sole heir or legatee. Probate fees for estates opened October 1, 2022 and after are based on estate value. No fees are due on small estates, including the $50,000 to $100,000 spouse-only category described in the research. Regular estates require bond and newspaper publication and include inventory and accounting work.

Calvert Probate Access Limits
EstateSearch provides broad public access, but it is not the only probate channel and it does not replace the local Register of Wills. Estate record PDFs may be downloaded for $0.50 per page. Some Register offices have public viewing stations, and printing is $0.50 per page. Wills filed for safekeeping by living persons are not public record. Records remain in EstateSearch indefinitely unless removed by court order, and the system's 500-result cap means broad name searches may need more detail.
